Mallorca

Mallorca is part of the Balearic Islands. The capital of the island, Palma, is also the capital of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands group that include Ibiza and Minorca (Menorca).

Mallorca History

Mallorca (Majorca) has been inhabited since Paleolithic period (6000–4000 BC). The island has been controlled by the Romans, Vandals, Byzantine Empire, Christians, Muslims and Moors.

King James I of Aragon annexed the island to the Crown of Aragon and upon his death in 1276, the kingdom was divided among his sons. James II became king of this new kingdom of Mallorca.

In the early 18th century it became part of the spanish province of Baleares, which is similar to the current province and autonomous community.
